Coach Brooks Ship

The A.G. Tunney Brooks Fighting Pirate Ship

The Man

Coach Brooks was the longtime (30 years) football, basketball, and baseball coach at Lumberton High School.
Captain of the baseball and basketball teams at Wake Forest University in 1953, he represented the USA in the Pan American Games as the catcher for the baseball team.
Elected to the NC High School Athletic Directors Hall of Fame in 2005.  Then inducted into the NC High School Coaches Hall of Fame in 2011.

Sad note, Coach Brooks passes away on May 4, 2012….two years following the presentation ceremony depicted herein.

Presentation night - May 1, 2010

Former athletes from my class of ‘61 paid tribute to Coach and spoke of how his influence carried over into their adult lives.

The unveiling

Over 200 supporters, mostly former athletes, attended from all over the country.

Our proudest moment…

This check presented to the University of North Carolina at Pembroke my (alma mater) to establish a $100 thousand dollar scholarship fund in Coach Brooks honor.

She’s really big!

Since there was no plan sheets to build from, I can only guess she is approximately 1:25th scale.

The build log….
